Leather Binding, Original Binding, Very Scarce
A French language handwritten work.
Consisting of thirty-six double sided handwritten leaves, followed by twenty-two blank leaves.
With a handwritten title page identifying this volume as authored by George Cornewall in November 1844.
Cornwell organises the work in twenty theorems, problems and corollaries, accompanied by numerous explanatory diagrams and figures, examining subjects including perpendicular lines, oblique angles, circles and triangles.
With the illustrated bookplate of Egerton Parker to the front pastedown. Parker was a teacher and house master at Hereford Cathedral School from 1970 to 1977. Generally known as Ege Parker, he was passionate about the study of history.
A wonderfully unique volume of mid nineteenth century geometry.
Condition
In the original quarter calf binding, with paper covered boards. Fading to back strip, with light losses to paper of boards. Front joint starting, with board a touch tender. Illustrated bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, binding a touch strained in places, but generally firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
