What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Fine Binding, Illustrated, Leather Binding

With portrait frontispieces to all volumes.

From the library of Allen and Beryl Freer. The Freers were avid art collectors, and acquired quite the selection over the twentieth century, of works mostly bought from the artists. Allen organised many exhibitions of artists he admired and published several works on art.

Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, 'H J Massingham Dec 1912'.

Stated to the title page as 'Now First Printed from the Original Manuscript' however copac states that there were editions of this work from as early as 1833 issued by Bentley.

Horace Walpole was an English polymath. His 'Letters' have been of significant social and political interest. A fascinating insight into eighteenth century life and society for this antiquarian and Whig politician.
