When first published this was an immensely popular work, this fifth edition being published in the same year as the first.

Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the joints, and a few minor marks to the boards. Spine is a little discoloured. Bookplate to the front paste down. Prior owner's ink note to the verso of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Head of the title page has been repaired, lacking the work 'The' to the head of the title.
