In this volume, Lady Florentia Sale provides an account of the nine months she spent as a hostage of Akbar Khan following the massacre in the Khurd Karbul Pass.
During her time as a captive, Lady Sale kept a diary, detailing the events of the ordeal in a matter of fact manner. She sent parts of her diary through her captives to her husband. He sent it on to the authorities in England, and it was quoted in the papers.
With the bookplate of C. E. Rusbridge to the front pastedown.
Sale was dubbed "the Grenadier in Petticoats" for her travels with the British army.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Back strip and board perimeters lightly age toned. Bumping to back strip tail, with loss of cloth to back strip head. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Closed tear repaired by tape to fore edge of front free endpaper. Internally, binding lightly strained. Pages bright, with light handling marks throughout, and light spotting.
