Description

First Edition, Scarce

Two scarce essays, unbound but intact.

In 1842, the Anti-Corn Law League offered a prize for the best essay on 'Agriculture and the Corn Law'. This work contains two prize essays on this subject by William Rathbone Greg (1809-1881) and Arthur Morse. Each essay argues why the Corn Laws are detrimental to tenant farmers and farm labourers.

The Corn Laws imposed tariffs and trade restrictions on imported food and corn in the United Kingdom between 1815 and 1846. These laws raised food prices and the costs of living for the British public. Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel repealed the Corn Laws in 1846.

Condition

Unbound but intact. Externally generally smart, though age toned. The first two pages are detached from the rest of the textblock but remain intact. Pages are clean but a little age toned.
