What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

An early edition, not the first, with the illustrations based on engravings by Turner and Stothard. Samuel Rogers was an English poet and was known during his lifetime as one of the most celebrated poets of his day. Though his fame has dwindled in favour of his contemporaries, Byron, Wordsworth and Coleridge, his recollections of these figures are key sources in the modern understanding of the artistic, historical and literary life of the time.

Condition

In a full morocco binding with gilt detailing to the board and spine. Externally sound with some rubbing and wear to the joints. Front hinge failed. Rear hinge strained but still reasonably firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally clean and bright throughout with just some spotting, and heavier foxing to first and last few pages.
