    First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

    The first edition of this work.

    Complete in two volumes.

    A charming topographical work on France, travelling to the region of Auvergne in the centre of the country. The pilgrimage beautifully described in this work takes the reader from Picardy to le Velay.

    Illustrated with a frontispiece and one plate to each volume.

    Collated, complete.

    Louisa Stuart Costello was an author on French hsitory, compiling many popular texts during her career.

    Condition

    In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spines are a little faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Minor marks to the boards and spines. Joints are lightly cracked, a little loss of cloth to the rear joint of Volume II. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with just a few odd spots.
