First Edition, Leather Binding, Rebound

The first edition of this work. A large paper copy of the English Hexapla, the New Testament in Green along with what are considered the six most important English translations which include Wiclif MCCCLXXX; Tyndale MDXXXXIV; Cranmer MDXXXIX; Genevan MDLVII; Anglo-Rhemish MDLXXXII; Authorised, or King James Bible MDCXI. The English translations are printed in double column below the Greek text after Scholz. 

Featuring a historical account of the English translations by S. P. Tregelles. 

This copy was bound by the congregation attending St. Giles's Church in Shrewsbury and presented to the Rev. James Welldon, English clergyman and scholar, with a dedication hand written in golden ink on a decorative sheet added to the volume.

Condition

In a full morocco binding with five raised bands, and decorative gilt to the spine, new dubleur endpapers and decorative gilt to the extremities; gilt and decorative embossing to the edges. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and rubbing to the spine and boards. Neat gift inscription in golden ink on a hand-coloured decorative sheet to the front. Internally, the hinges are slightly strained, title page to p. 9 loose but present, volume generally firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to the occasional leaf, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean throughout.
