The scarce first edition. In a full calf binding with gilt detail. With an engraved frontispiece and nineteen full pages of engravings to the first part of the volume. With a further engraved title page and thirty nine full-page plates from John Britton's Dictionary, to the rear of the book. Collated complete. A companion to the third edition of, 'A Glossary of Terms Used in Gothic Architecture', containing four hundred additional examples, a chronological table, and indexes. With plates taken from Mr. Britton's "Dictionary of the Architecture and Archaeology of the Middle Ages", the copyright of which was bought by the publisher. Compiled by the English archeologist, architectural writer and publisher, John Henry Parker. The half title page is present. With an advertisement for the work to the front of the volume. With a bookplate for the Saint Mary the Virgin Sisters Library, Wantage, to the front paste-down.

Condition

In full calf binding. Externally, very smart with some rubbing to the extremities. Some loss to the title plate on the spine. Marks and scattered spotting to the boards. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages O3 and O4 of the index are loosening but still attached, otherwise pages are very firm. Pages lightly age-toned but generally bright and clean. Foxing to the half title page and frontispiece. Light spotting throughout.
