Two musical works by William Byrd bound in one volume.
'A Mass For Five Voices, Composed Between the Years 1553 & 1558, For the Old Cathedral of Saint Paul'. Undated, dated 1841 from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Oxford Libraries.
This choral mass setting was written in about c1594, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, not in the 1550s as stated in the work's title, and consists of the Text of the Mass - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei.
Including a life of Byrd by Edward F. Rimbault.

This is the first part of a work compiled by Byrd and his contemporary Thomas Tallis.
These two works were printed for the members of the Musical Antiquarian Society, a society established in 1840.
William Byrd was an important composer of the Renaissance. His prolific output had a profound influence on composers across Europe.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, with rubbing and marks to the boards and spine, rubbing heavier to the leather. Spine is a little faded. Minor bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some scattered spots.
