What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Leather Binding, Rebound, Very Scarce

The first edition of this very scarce work.

With a portrait frontispiece to each volume.

A very scarce work, authorship has been variously attributed to James Grant, Archer Polson and Laing D. Purves, with no definitive conclusion reached.

The preface explains that 'in the following work, we have attempted to trace the fortunes of some of our more eminent lawyers - to show the means by which they elevated themselves - and the struggles they underwent in endeavouring that elevation'.

Chapter titles include literary lawyers, morality of laws and lawyers, legal eccentricity, and sketches of former judges.

A lovely copy of this very scarce mid nineteenth century study of members of the legal profession.

Condition

Rebound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Volume I frontispiece restored with tape to fore edge. Spotting to frontispieces, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
