First published in 1832, this work offers a detailed guide to the study of Greek, Roman, and English coins.
The work of English antiquarian John Yonge Akerman, who specialised in numismatics. In 1836, he started a publication called the Numismatic Journal, and helped to form the Numismatic Society of London, which held its first regular meeting in December 1836.
Illustrated with seventeen engraved plates. Collated, complete.
With sections devoted to English, Roman, Greek, Anglo-Gallic, and Irish and Scotch coins.
Condition
In a half straight grain morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strip. Boards age toned to perimeters, most concentrated to rear board. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Contemporary pencil inscription to the front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Plates age toned to perimeters, with light spotting.
