Leather Binding

Complete in Two Volumes. With forty-five plates, collated complete. One ink stamp for Natural History Society, to title page. With a decorative bookplate for Paul Quick Karkeek to the front pastedown. 'A New Edition, with Improvements'. There is a T. Stephens bookbinder's label to the front pastedowns. Thomas Dudley Fosbroke, 1770-1842, antiquary. The Encyclopaedia of Antiquities was Fosbroke's largest work and "the first English publication of its kind" -ODNB.

Condition

Recently rebacked in cloth, with half calf boards. Externally, rubbed to extremities. The hinges are strained. Internally, firmly bound, with foxing to the plates, first and last few pages, and pages around the plates. The frontis has been laid down. With a Torquay Natural History Society ink stamp to the title page.
