An extensive treatise by Joseph Gwilt on architecture, looking at the rudimentary basis of the subject in both a practical and theoretical manner.

Gwilt begins the work by looking into all of the common materials employed in building, exploring how they are best used in different settings and their vast origins. He then explores different architectural and decorative features that form the basis of architecture.

Bookplate of Reverend Edwin Evers to the front paste down. Tipped in clipping and a pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper.

Condition

In a rebacked cloth binding with the original boards restored. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss to the extremities. Boards are lightly discoloured, particularly to the extremities where they are faded, with some minor marks. Bookplate to the front paste down. Tipped in clipping and a pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spotting, heavier to the plates.
