The second edition of the English language translation of French archaeologist and traveller Leon de Laborde's account of his travels through Asia Minor, Syria and Egypt, before entering the French diplomatic service.
First in the original French in 1830, and first translated in 1836.
Illustrated with a folding map and twenty-six plates. Collated, complete.
With the inscription of 'R. Topping' to title page head.
In 1846, de Laborde was made curator of the Louvre Museum of Antiques, and in 1857 director-general of the archives of the Second French Empire.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Fading to spine with light rubbing to joints and back strip head and tail. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to title page head. Light spotting to first few leaves, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
