This was the first major dictionary of its kind, often considered the definitive Old English lexicon. Four editions were published, with this being the first. Later editions were published in 1898, 1921 and 1972.
Compiled by Joseph Bosworth (178801876), a scholar of the Anglo-Saxon language, with this being his most well-known work.
Illustrated with a folding map in colour of Europe, and a folding table of the alphabets to the rear.
A first edition of this important piece of Anglo-Saxon lexicography.
Condition
In a full cloth binding with a contemporary leather spine label. Externally very smart, with just some general wear. Small ownership inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
