A smart first edition in book form, first published in the Quarterly Review in 1835. In half morocco, in a signed Sawyer binding.
The work of Welsh sportsman and sporting writer Charles James Apperley, who published his works under the pseudonym 'Nimrod'.
Illustrated with a monochrome reproduction of the author as the frontispiece, by Irish painter Daniel Maclise, R.A., and thirteen monochrome plates of drawings by Henry Thomas Alken, a painter and engraver of sporting scenes, who often worked with his friend Nimrod. Collated, complete.
The three parts cover fox hunting, coach driving and horse racing.
With a leaf of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In half morocco, with marbled paper covered boards and matching endpapers. Gilt lettering to spine and gilt top edge. Externally excellent with minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Two illustrations bound out of order (page 54 should face page 59 and vice versa). Pages generally bright and clean with slight age toning, and occasional spotting to the front and rear few leaves.
