Volume one only. Illustrated throughout with frontispiece, many in-text diagrams, three plates and one folding plate, of which one corner has been torn. Collated complete. A study of the Ancient Egyptians, with details of the inhabitants of the valley of the Nile, a list of Kings from Menes to the end of the 17th Dynasty, the birth of Moses, cutting canals, war and battle, and towns and population. Written by John Gardner Wilkinson, an English traveller, writer and pioneer Egyptologist of the 19th century. He is often referred to as "the Father of British Egyptology".

Condition

Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Tear to the folding plate to the rear. Bookseller's label to the rear pastedown. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper.
