Written by the Scottish naturalist and ornithologist, William MacGillivray.

Volume I is illustrated with nine plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout.

Volume II is illustrated with four plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout.

Volume III is illustrated with nine plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout.

Volume IV is illustrated with four plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout.

Volume V is illustrated with three plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout.

Half-title is present to each volume.

Collated, complete.

Rebacked, with original cloth back strips laid down, and boards restored. Endpapers renewed.

Former owner's inscription to volume I front free endpaper.

Condition

Rebacked, in the original cloth bindings. Back strips laid down, with endpapers renewed. Bumping and instances of loss of cloth to back strip heads and tails. Mark to centre of front board of volume I. Hinges of volume II strained, but firmly held. Rear hinge of volume III strained, but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, generally firmly bound, with volume I strained in a small number of places. Pages bright, with instances of light spotting throughout, most concentrated in volumes I and V. Spotting to plates.
