An essay discussing Van den bon Reynaerde, Middle Dutch version of the story of Reynard as written by Willem die Madoc maecte, considered to be one of the major works of Dutch literature. Containing a retelling of the Flemish fable with notes and commentary by Jans Frans Willem. In the original Dutch.
Jans Frans Willem was an Flemish author and father of the Flemish movement.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and further twelve lithographed plates. Collated, complete.
Condition
In a half straight up grain morocco binding over marbled boards, with marbled endpapers. Externally sound with some shelf wear, boards are rubbed, with light soiling and minor marks. Bumped to extremities of boards and spine. Previous ownership inscription to verso front free endpaper and verso frontispiece, and title page, with a discreet stamp in red ink to title page. Internally, firmly bound. Some spotting to the first and last few leaves as well as to the odd leaf throughout, although pages appear generally bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece and further twelve lithographed plates. Collated, complete.
