What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Illustrated, Very Scarce

Very scarce 1836 edition. Rare in all editions.

Illustrations include one frontispiece and fifteen other illustrated plates to the rear of text, which depict different poses such as 'Recover Sword and Carry Sword', 'Cuts 1 and 2', 'Right and Left Points', and 'Salute'.

This is an informative guide to sword exercise intended for use by the Yeomanry Cavalry, the mounted component of the British Volunteer Corps. This manual was intended for those volunteers who might be called to battle suddenly, but didn't necessarily have the formal training of other soldiers within the Army and Navy.

Contents include 'Drill on Foot' and 'General Observations', with detailed descriptions on how to complete different sword exercises correctly.

Henry Charles Angelo the Younger (1780-1852) was a British fencing master, who was part of the famous Angelo Family of fencers. He took over his father's fencing academy in 1817 and was also the superintendent of sword exercise for the British Army and the Royal Navy.

Collated, complete.
