The first edition of this work, complete in three volumes. Volume I published in 1836; volume II in 1838; volume III in 1842.
With an engraved title page to each volume. Volume I illustrated with a further fifty-nine; volume II with fifty-nine, and volume III with fifty-nine.
Collated, complete.
With drawings and sketches by Robert Garland and descriptions by Thomas Moule.
The first volume describes Salisbury, Canterbury and York Cathedrals, volume two explores Lincoln, Chichester and Exeter Cathedrals and volume three describes Lichfield, Gloucester and Durham Cathedrals.
With the bookplate of Scottish church leader William Lindsay Alexander to each front pastedown, and of T & M James to each front free endpaper.
A beautifully illustrated study of English and Welsh Cathedral churches.
Condition
In half morocco bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. A touch of fading to back strips, with minor rubbing to back strip heads and tails. Bookplates to front pastedowns and front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally bright, but with spotting to plates, and pages facing them.
