What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding
Bound in half leather with gilt lettering and decoration. Two works bound as one. The Princess has been bound without a title page. The publication information has been taken from COPAC. This work is Baudry's European Library, the Collection of Ancient and Modern British Authors, Vol. 71 published in 1835, although The Missionary has a separate title page dated 1834. The Missionary "is set in India and reflects two religious conflicts: that between the Franciscans and the Dominicans, and that between Christianity and Hinduism. Surpassing both conflicts is the supremacy of love, especially as embodied in Owenson's greatest heroine, the Hindu priestess Luxima, who dies to save her Franciscan missionary lover from the inquisition of the Dominicans" -ODNB. The Princess began "as a travel book" and is "set in newly independent Belgium" -ODNB. Lady Sydney Morgan, nee Owenson, d.1859, was a novelist and socialite.
