Illustrated, Leather Binding

Written by Thomas Walker Horsfield, a topographer and historian best known for this work, which was considered a standard for its time.

Complete in two volumes. 

The first and only edition of this important work, complete in two volumes. 

Containing the ownership bookplate of Daniel Watney to volume I and of M. B. E. H. Nixon to the second volume. 

Both volumes are illustrated with a frontispiece engraving, a folding map backed on cloth and wood engravings through the text. Volume I is also illustrated with twenty-nine plates. Volume II is illustrated with twenty-five plates. Collated, complete.

An excellent first edition of this delightful illustrated history of Sussex.

Condition

In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart; a little discoloured to the spine as to be expected. Slight edgewear and a little fading to the boards. Extremities are bumped. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little spotted.
