Leather Binding

With an illustrated frontispiece and title page. This novel was one of two by Morier featuring the character Hajii Baba. The Sequel to this work was titled 'The Adventures of Hajii Baba in England'. Both of these novels formed the basis for the popular 1954 American film titled 'The Adventures of Hajii Baba'. Written by British diplomat and author, James Morier. Morier was knowledgeable of Eastern culture and manners due to his career in Iran. He drew on this experience in his novels. From the library of Sir Percy Florence Shelley, the 3rd Baronet of Castle Goring. Shelley was the only surviving child of Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of 'Frankenstein's Monster'. He was also the only grandchild of women's rights advocate and author, Mary Wollstonecraft.

Condition

In a half morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, rubbed. Heavy rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities resulting in a small amount of loss, particularly to the head and tail of spine. Front hinge is strained but firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown of Sir Percy Florence Shelley. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges. Instances of scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few pages.
