What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition
In a beautiful red morocco binding with gilt stamped detailing to boards and spine. With illustrations based on engravings by Turner and Stothard. Joseph Mallord William Turner was an English Romantic landscape painter. At his time of painting his works were considered to be controversial although today he is regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence that could rival history painting. Thomas Stothard was an English painter and engraver. It is believed in his lifetime he designed around five thousand illustrations, with three thousand engraved. This poetry collection by Rogers is a follow up to his successful poem Italy. Italy also had engravings by Turner and Stothard as well as Prout. Samuel Rogers was one of the most celebrated poets during his lifetime. However his fame has now been eclipsed by his Romantic colleagues and friends Wordsworth, Coleridge and Byron.
