Anacreon was a Greek lyric poet known for his drinking songs and erotic poems. The present pocket sized volume is the first edition of his odes rendered to English and edited by James Usher, a scarce copy. 

The odes are admired for their elegance and genuine simplicity, mostly concerned with themes of love, infatuation, revelry, and aspects of every-day life.

Condition

Rebound a full cloth binding with titles in gilt to spine. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities, light soiling to boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Odd minor spotting to occasional leaf, otherwise pages clean throughout with a touch of age toning, as usual with the type of paper used.
