Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

First Edition.

Three volume set, containing Volumes I-III.

Illustrations include a frontispiece to each of the volumes as well as a vignette title engraving, as well as over one-hundred plates across all volumes. These plates were illustrated by various important artistic figures, such as C. Stanfield, J. M. W. Turner, and G. Cattermole.

This is a lovely work which celebrates the life and legacy of Lord Byron (1788-1824), the popular Romantic poet. Byron's life is described alongside relevant engravings and illustrations from influential artists.

Vol I contains forty-two illustrated plates that depict important subjects such as Miss Chaworth, Lord Byron's first love, as well as Delphi, Corinth, and the Acropolis.

Vol II contains forty-two illustrated plates with subjects such as Sir Walter Scott, Lady Caroline Lamb, Venice, Petrarch's House, and Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Vol II contains forty-two illustrated plates depicting Aberdeen, Harrow, Robert Southey, and Dante's tomb at Ravenna.

Engravings by William Finden (1787-1852), who worked alongside his brother to publish a range of various galleries of engravings. This work on Lord Byron was the first of these volumes.
