The works of Lord Byron with notes by Thomas Moore.
These volumes include a selection of Byron's private letters and journals which explore his personal life and foreign travels. Thomas Moore was an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist. His career as a writer is reflected in how he analyses Byron's work. Within his introduction and notes, he takes great pleasure in recognizing techniques and style. Through his commentary, it demonstrates the lasting impact that Byron has had and will continue to have on the literary canon.
In the preface to the first edition, Moore suggests that he felt under significant pressure to produce a work on Byron's private life. There is a suggestion that in doing so he would create an inaccurate depiction of Byron's life. Moore goes on to suggest that to understand Byron's poetry his private life and thoughts need to be explored and understood.
Within this volume, Moore celebrates Byron's letters and journals suggesting that his work was more than poetry. Moore includes a selection of Byron's epic poems including Lara and Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
