John Murray's edition of the collected works works of Romantic English poet Lord Byron. Sixteen of seventeen volumes, lacking vol. VIII. Originally intended to be completed in fourteen volumes, it was expanded in 1833 with three additional volumes. This set is comprised of mixed editions dated 1832-34. 

A stunning example in uniform full morocco binding signed Sotheran, esteemed antiquarian bookshop and book binders from London. 

Byron was an infamous figure of Romanticism known for his mannerisms and particular character. He was made famous in his time by his long autobiographical poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and his many love affairs, and is better known today for the satiric realism of Don Juan. His poetry is characterised by the use of blank verse, allusive imagery, heroic couplets, and complex structure.

With a life of the author by Thomas Moore to vols. 1-6. Followed by Byron's complete works including his miscellaneous pieces in prose, Hours of Idleness, Occasional Pieces, English Bards and Scotch Reviewers.

Engraved frontispiece and additional engraved title page to all volumes. With an additional plate to volume VI and folding plate to volume VII. Collated, complete with all illustrations. Half titles present to all volumes except I, IX.

Condition

Rebound in uniform full morocco with gilt lettering to spine, gilt tooling to extremities, renewed plain endpapers, gilt to top edge. Externally lovely. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to first and last few leaves, pages otherwise bright and clean.
