Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

John Murray's edition of the collected works works of Romantic English poet Lord Byron. Sixteen volumes of seventeen, without vol. I. Originally intended to be completed in fourteen volumes, it was expanded in 1833.

Byron was an infamous figure of Romanticism known for his mannerisms and particular character. He was made famous in his time by his long autobiographical poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and his many love affairs, and is better known today for the satiric realism of Don Juan. His poetry is characterised by the use of blank verse, allusive imagery, heroic couplets, and complex structure.

With a life of the author by Thomas Moore to vols. [1]-6. Followed by Byron's complete works including his miscellaneous pieces in prose, Hours of Idleness, Occasional Pieces, English Bards and Scotch Reviewers.

Engraved frontispiece and additional engraved title page to all volumes. With an additional plate to volume VI and folding plate to volume VII. Collated, complete. With half titles.
