A collection of letters discussing the Victorian phenomena of magic. Magic saw a rising interest in the nineteenth century, these letters enlighten the reader of how the examples of magic they see are performed.

The letters were written to and addressed to Sir Walter Scott, in a series of thirteen letters.

Written by David Brewster, a British scientist who is known for his work in physical optics, which led to the discovery of Brewster's angle.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the boards and spine. A couple of light spots to the boards. Some spots to the endpapers. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very small tidemark to the edges of the first few pages.
