During the nineteenth century consumption was a common illness, due to tuberculosis becoming epidemic in Europe. It was considered to be a somewhat romantic disease, it being popular amongst artists, and a high killer of young people.

Condition
Rebound in paper covered boards, rebacked with the original boards restored. Externally, generally smart. Some light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Evidence of former wear to the boards prior to rebacking. Light bumping to the extremities. Spine label is a little discoloured and chipped. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spotting.
