In the original French. Alexis Boyer was the son of a tailor and obtained his first medical knowledge in the shop of a barber surgeon. He attracted the attention of renowned surgeons Antoine Louis and Pierre-Joseph Desault when he moved to Paris. He persevered at his profession and gained great notoriety for his anatomical knowledge and dexterity in surgery. He specialised in urological pathology, particularly disorders of micturition.
