Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Scarce

The first edition of this work, a scarce work.

Complete in three volumes.

Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, and engraved title page, Volume II illustrated with an engraved title page.

Volume III illustrated with an engraved title page, and sixty-eight plates.

A compendium of British heraldry, detailing the armorial bearings of many noble and gentle families and dynasties of Britain, a useful reference work.

Also containing a glossary of heraldic terms, as well as a fantastic history of heraldry.

The study of heraldry offers a rich look at British history, through the lens of the prominent families of the country, detailing their rises and falls.

Volume I contains ABB-HAN, Volume II contains HAN-ZYM, Volume III contains a glossary, moots, appendix, addenda, and plates.

Compiled by Thomas Robson.

Volume I has many additional pieces bound in and loosely inserted, all showing arms from various other works, a wonderful addition to the text.

Condition

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the boards and spines. Light marks to the spines and boards. Rubbing has resulted in a little loss of paper to the front board of Volume III. Spines are a little discoloured. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots, a little heavier to the plates and to the first and last few pages. Plate 53 of Volume III has been repaired.
