First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Signed

A first edition thus, of this work which was reprinted by John M'Diarmid from the 'Courier'. 

Signed by the author to the recto of front endpaper. 

Prior owner's inscription to the head of front endpaper, dated 1879. 

With chapters on eagles, gulls, foxes, elephants, otters, bees, monkeys, and rooks. There are also biographies to the second part of this work, on the likes of Mr Gilbert Burns, John Kennedy, Hugh Clapperton and James Hislop. 

In a very smart half calf binding, with paper covered boards. 

Condition

In a half calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart, with light shelfwear to the joints. Prior owners' inscriptions to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots.
