Description

Illustrated

Interestingly, each text contained within is translated into English, Latin, Italian, French and Spanish.

From illustrations by Hans Holbein the Younger (c1497-1543), a German painter and printmaker. Holbein was King's Painter to Henry VIII after enjoying the patronage of Thomas Cromwell and Anne Boleyn. He is remembered as one of the most realist and precise artists of his day, with many important figures of his time remembered through his depictions of them.

Engraved by John and Mary Byfield, wood engravers active in the nineteenth century hailing from a family of engravers. They produced many works for the Chiswick Press.

With an introduction by Thomas Frognall Dibdin.

Bound by George Winstanley of Manchester.

Containing the ownership bookplate of K. K. Wood.

An uncommon and sought-after work.

Condition

In a full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little bumping to the extremities. Ownership bookplate to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are just a little spotted.
