First edition of The Scottish Songs; collected and illustrated by Robert Chambers in quarter calf binding and the original slip case. 

With marbled boards and marbled slip case. The slip case is very scarce.

Complete in two volumes, this is Volume I only. 

Robert Chambers was a Scottish publisher who was highly influential in mid nineteenth century political and scientific circles. 

Includes a historical essay on Scottish songs as a preface. 

Condition

In quarter calf binding with marbled boards and a slipcase. The slip case is very good indeed, with some slight bumping to the extremities only. The binding is also very good indeed. There is some very slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some occasional spotting
