Complete in nine volumes, with the supplementary volume. A critical catalogue and comprehensive, annotated list of all the known artworks of the most eminent Dutch, Flemish, and French painters. With a shot biographical notice of each artist, copious descriptions of their principal pictures, a statement of prices at which such pictures have been sold at public sales on the continent and in England, a reference to the galleries and private collections in which a large portion of works are found, and a brief notice of scholars and imitators of the great masters. Written by John Smith, a nineteenth-century British art dealer who developed the concept of the catalogue raisonne. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece and five plates. Volume three is illustrated with a frontispiece and five plates. Volume four is illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates. Volume five is illustrated with a frontispiece and four plates. Volume six is illustrated with a frontispiece and five plates. Volume seven is illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates. Volume eight is illustrated with a frontispiece and six plates. Collated complete.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with scattered spotting throughout, predominantly to the first and last few pages. Some of the text block remains unopened.
