1829 The Works of Lord Byron in Six Volumes, with Don Juan
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding
An charming eight volume pocket sized set of the works of Romantic era poet Lord Byron, uniformly bound in half calf.
Present here is the 1829 six volume John Murray edition of Byron's poetic works, with 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage', 'The Giaour' and 'The Corsair' present, among many of his less well known poetic endeavours.
The final two volumes are a scarce 1829 two volume set of Byron's 'Don Juan', the satirical epic poem that Percy Bysshe Shelley remarked 'carries with it at once the stamp of originality and defiance of imitation'. Upon their initial publication in 1819, the first two cantos were criticised as immoral, due to the ridiculing of the society of his day.
With an illustrated frontispiece to each of the 'Don Juan' volumes. Collated, complete.
Present at the birth of Mary Shelley's famous horror story 'Frankenstein', and widely gossiped and written about during and after his lifetime, this work forms a delightfully bound set of the works of one of the most famous poets in the English language, also one of the most famous figures in British history, notorious for his controversial life.
A smart set of the works of a man frequently regarded as one of the greatest English poets, published only five years after his death.
