Schoberl's series aimed to, 'increase the store of knowledge concerning the various branches of the great family of Man, not only for adults, but also keeping in view the instruction and amusement of the juvenile student'.

He published forty-three volumes of this work in total.

Illustrated with eighteen delightful hand-coloured plates depicting national dress. Collated, complete.

With a charming inscription to the front free endpaper awarding this work to H. Gilby 'as a reward for good behaviour, and as a stimulus to diligence'.

Undated; dated 1827 via Jisc.

A beautifully illustrated early nineteenth century study of Switzerland.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Front board detached, with rear board loosely held by two cords only. Rubbing to board perimeters and back strip. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright.
