Early Edition, Folding Plates, Leather Binding, Scarce

To a custom pocket at the front pastedown is the folding plate of questions that can be put to the oracle.  A second copy of the plate is loosely inserted too. The plate has been laid down onto linen. 

The fifteenth edition of this scarce work. 

Former owner's inscription to the verso of final leaf to the preface. 

Tape repairs to several leaves. 

A scarce work, which has been translated from a book of fate that was left in Napoleon's cabinet of curiosities following his defeat at Leipzig. The Oraculum was discovered in one of the Royal tombs during a French military expedition on 1801. It was translated for Napoleon by a German scholar and antiquarian.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the boards and extremities. Recently rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Chips to the page edges. Several tape repairs to pages. Small loss to the edge of XVIII. A few small ink spills to the title page. Otherwise, just the occasional light spots to pages.
