Description

First Edition, Leather Binding

Written by Captain Andrews, the late commander of the H.C.S Windham. 

This is a first-hand account of the treacherous journey across South America. The mission was as an envoy for British mining interests starting at Buenos Ayres across the pampas and over the Andean Cordillera. 

Captain Andrews' writings of Buenos Ayres was contemporaneously, one of the most popular books on the subject. Sabin notes that this work was praised for giving a 'clear sensible and modest account of his journey' (Sabin 1509). 

Prior owner's inscription to the title pages, Marian Montgomery'. Stamp to the recto of front endpaper, A. Macdougall. 

An important work, which gives vivid, descriptions of South America.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the boards and extremities. Front hinge to volume II is strained. Prior owner's inscriptions to the recto of front endpaper. A second prior owner's inscription to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Scattered spotting to the first and last few pages.
