First Edition, Rebound
Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon was a political figure during the English Civil War, opposing Parliament. He was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1645. This historical account was written by George Agar Ellis, a Whig politician under Earl Grey who took a great interest in culture. He was affiliated with the National Gallery, the British Museum and, in 1832, was the president of the Royal Society of Literature. This first edition copy is rebound in a modern cloth binding, with original spine title fragment.
Condition
In a cloth rebinding with original spine title fragment. Externally, lovely, in a modern rebinding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting.
