Half-title present to Volumes II and III.

A classic historical fiction novel by Sir Walter Scott, part of his popular 'Waverley' series.

This novel is set just after the English Civil War in 1651, inspired by the legend of the Good Devil of Woodstock. Mainly this novel focuses on the escape of Charles II, and his eventual return to England in 1660.

Walter Scott is best known for his historical novels and poems, including 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe', and 'The Lady of the Lake'. 'The Lay of the Last Minstrel' was the first poem of his that brought him into the spotlight of the public's eye, establishing him as one of the most popular writers of his time.

Bound without the half-title and publisher's adverts to Volume I.

Condition

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards, rebacked with the original boards and spines restored. Externally, rubbing to the boards and spines. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, resulting in a little loss of leather. Joints are a little cracked. Small paper loss to the rear board of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots. Puncture marks to the first few pages of Volume I. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title pages. Volume I bound without half-title and publisher's adverts.
