What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

The first edition of this work.

A very scarce work.

Complete in two volumes.

An extensive history of the world, looking deeply into the Earth from it's creation up to 1825.

Divided into twelve sections, split into before the birth of Christ, and after.

Volume I illustrated with a hand-coloured folding table to the frontispiece.

Written by William Henry Ireland under the pseudonym Henry Boyle. It's likely that Ireland wrote this work under a pseudonym as it was published after he was exposed for his Shakespeare forgeries; in 1794 Ireland told his father that he found a cache of old documents signed by Shakespeare, and went on to forge letters and manuscripts by Shakespeare. He was exposed for his forgery in around 1796.

Condition

In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with minor rubbing to the boards and spines. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Spines are a little faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just a couple of odd spots.
