Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding

A lovely pocket-sized edition, in the original full calf binding, with decorative tooling on the front and rear boards and an illustrated frontispiece.

Florian's fables are here published in the original French.

Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian, 1755-1794, was a well-regarded French poet, novelist, and writer of fables. Known for his somewhat inaccurate translation of 'Don Quixote', one of Florian's major successes was being credited as instrumental in promoting Cervantes to French audiences.

Accused of writing verse in honour of the queen, Florian died aged only 39 of tuberculosis while imprisoned during the French Revolution.
