Description

Leather Binding, Scarce

A scarce work, based on and illustrative of select texts of scripture. Written by Bernard Barton, a Quaker poet, born in 1784. His chief work 'The Convict's Appeal' was in protest against the death penalty, published in 1818.

Condition

In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, rubbed to the boards and extremities. Small loss to the head and tail of spine. Rubbing to the spine is heavy. Front hinge and joint are tender. Rear hinge is strained but firm. Prior owner's inscriptions to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with spotting to the first and last few pages. The odd spots throughout.
