First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding
The first edition of Hone's guide to the events and history of everyday of the year, in a half calf binding. Ink inscription to the front free end paper. William Hone (1780-1842) was an English writer, satirist and bookseller. Hone has been described as one of the fathers of modern media. His victorious court battle against government censorship in 1817 marked a turning point in the fight for British press freedom. Hone is best remembered for his works The Every-day Book, Table Book and Year Book; he was assisted with these by his friend Charles Lamb and his son-in-law Jacob Henry Burn.
Condition
In a half calf binding. Externally smart, with some rubbing to the boards and extremities. Leather is lifting to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Offsetting to some of the pages containing illustrations, and those next to them. Otherwise, pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot to the first and last pages.
