Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

This is a most informative copy of 'The History of England'.

The first volume contains celebrated philosopher and historian David Hume's account recounting from the invasion of Julius Caesar until the 1688 Revolution, taken as the standard history of its time and having been published in over one hundred editions, making it an important work. 

The second book contains Scottish poet and writer Tobias Smollett's account from the Revolution until the death of George II, and this is followed by a continuation by J. R. Miller detailing until the coronation of George IV in 1821. 

Volume I contains nine full plate illustrations and a frontispiece illustration of the author. 

Volume II contains four full plate illustrations, as well as two frontispiece engravings.

In a half calf leather binding with marbled boards.

Condition

In a half calf binding. Externally a trifle rubbed to the spine and extremities, the joint of vol. 2 is cracking a touch. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
